Write in your secret hole

Writing always feels like creating in a secret hole, to me

Even when I do it publicly

It requires a secreting within—a holding myself away from everything that has ideas other than my own

It is an explosively creative place—like growing plants, or fusion—proceeding one step at a time

methodically

intuitively

insisting on the move (as David Mamet says) insisting on the word, the statement, the story—proceeding unstoppably

Writing (and the attached thinking) is the most personal—the place with the most possibility for truth—the most fertile—the most powerful place I know to go

Picking out my music this morning for (MONSTER) I know I'm going back to this place and I am excited
